Overview

Trash 008 continues the series of CDs that contain music for smaller projects from Supersweep. This album, featuring contributions from Kazuhiro Kobayashi, contains music for what seems like a brain training game for the Nintendo Wii and Nintendo DS. Is this one worth picking up?

Body

The overall tone of the album is quite upbeat, focusing on electronic tones to accomplish this feat. The album opens up with "Love of the right brain," an upbeat electronic theme that reminds me, stylistically, of a sort of modern instrumental doo-wop style track at times. It's an extremely catchy theme and really manages to set the tone for the rest of the album.

"The adventure of the right brain" is another memorable theme that really carries a very playful atmosphere. It's energetic and really manages to showcase a very strong melody. Both "Thinking of the right brain" and "Philosophy of the right brain" are quirky electronic tunes that may not focus on melody as much as some of the other themes but offer a puzzling atmosphere.

There are also a lot of shorter themes that convey a variety of moods, although all in an electronic capacity, such as "Sleep of the right brain" which expresses a calming mood amidst the usually upbeat sounds on the album, or "Strain of the right brain," which is more intense than a lot of the tracks on the album, signifying perhaps a difficult challenge during the game. Overall, they contribute rather than detract on the soundtrack, but are inevitably brief.

Summary

While this album is brief, it offers strong themes and an overall decent soundscape. It can be a bit quirky at times and perhaps a bit too peppy for some, though. If you have a chance, definitely try to pick it up because it can be ordered from the SuperSweep shop for rather cheap.
