Here are three of the Cantigas de Santa María, written in the 13th century and traditionally attributed to King Alfonso X El Sabio of Castile (1221-1284). They were written in Medieval Galician, the ancestor of the Galician language currently spoken in Galicia, Spain, closely related to Portuguese. Scholarship has shown that the Cantigas have several different authors from Alfonso X's court.
