Biography
Olivier Deriviere has studied composition and orchestration at the Nice conservatory (France). In 1999 he produced a solo album (Harry's day) and started to write arrangements of great film scores for the percussions quartet he founded at the Cagnes sur mer conservatory. In 2000, he received a scholarship from Berklee and went to Boston to study jazz and film scoring. Beside college, he spent a whole season with the Boston Symphony Orchestra and went to every reharsals and concerts. There he interacted with great composers and conductors such as Seiji Ozawa, Ilan Volkov and John Williams. Back to France he started to work for short movies and tv shows. In 2004 he earned the award of best soundtrack for his short movie The toast at the Moviz Festival (www.moviz.com) as well as great reviews for his work on Obscure (hydravision/MC2) such Gamespy's : "You'll begin to notice the impressive and dare we say innovative qualities of this game possesses like the in-game music". This music was performed by the Children choir of the national Opera of Paris and in 2005 to extend the quality of the music production for Obscure's sequel (Obscure : the aftermath) Deriviere added the Boston Quartet, formed by Boston Symphony Orchestra members including the Concertmaster Miss Tamara Smirnova. In 2007 he earned the award of best soundtrack from the french developpers festival and Obscure 2 reviews got great critics like IGN's : "Music is fantastic and evocative". Obscure 2 was performed for the 2nd edition of Games in concert in Amsterdam by the metropolitan orchestra. Later, he started to work for Alone in the dark and he got the great grammy award winner The Mystery of Bulgarian voices choir to perform his music. The 20th of May 2008 Milan Records will release an audio CD of Alone in the dark soundtrack; it will be the first time Milan records, a hollywood based music label, would publish a videogame score.

Electronic Arts just announced name of Dead Space composer –
Jason Graves composed over three hours of music, which was recorded during two record sessions. Jason’s music was performed by famous
Northwest Sinfonia and
Skywalker Symphony Orchestra, recorded at Bastyr Chapel and Skywalker Sound Scoring Stage and conducted by Jason himself. Each section was recorded separately (woodwinds, string, brass and percussions) to have opportunity to create multilayered adaptive music for game. Recording was produced by Jason Graves and
Rod Abernethy. Do you remember awesome Alone in the Dark symphonic soundtrack by
Olivier Deriviere? Well, now we have another good example of using symphonic music in horrors.

Dead Space is bloody-brutal sci-fi horror. Game takes place in a deep space approximately 500 years in the future. Playing as engineer Isaac Clarke, simple worker on big mining spaceship USG Ishimura, player recognizes that all crew is horribly slaughtered and transformed into monsters. Now he is on sole survive.
PS3 and Xbox360 versions are planned to be released on October 14, and PC version comes on October 20.
