Successful artist/composer/producer Michael Bross conjures a style that is emotional and haunting.
In the last few years, he has created the soundtrack for the video
games "Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath" (published by Electronic Arts,
2005) and "Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee" (published by Microsoft, 2001). Oddworld's games have sold 5 million copies worldwide. His work on these projects has won him several awards including the NY Festivals
Gold World Medal in 2004 for “Best Soundtrack”. He also crafted
the scores for "Black Dahlia" (1998, published by Take 2), starring Dennis Hopper, and "Ripper" (1996, published by Take 2), starring
Christopher Walken.
Besides his score work, Bross recently recorded and released a new
album, “Everything Is Now” (2006), a unique crafting of cinematic/hypnotic electronica. His album "As Quiet Things Roar", originally
released in 2001, has been re-released in 2007.
He is also working on a new album which will be released sometime this year.
Michael Bross, who works on at least four-game projects, posted on its website two recent orchestral tracks - An Escape, and Apparitions. Roll up. Bross does not explain for what kind of game those compositions were created, but we collect questions and hope that in the near future we would ask them to the composer.
"My goal was to create something that was heroic yet urgent. The finished track ended up having a fair amount of guitar work, though when I set out to create the piece, I had not intended to use that instrument. Listening back, I don’t know what I would have done had I not used guitars. It’s not that the guitar is a lead instrument in the track but instead, I wove it in with the rest of the instrumentation along with using it to provide a wider atmosphere. What I like about it is that it adds some aggression and grit, which in turn, ups the intensity of the piece." - says Bross.
"As I wrote the piece, I kept thinking it had to be epic. No, scratch that. It had to be !!!EPIC!!!, and so I aimed for every facet of it to sound huge–the brass, the strings, the guitars, the percussion. All of it! A real wall of sound."
We prompt our Intrigued readers - Bross have posted a theme on the official game site.
